Spotting a content gap in a live trend and shipping the asset that filled it - in 20 minutes
A regional content trend was running hot. A 597K-follower Telegram channel publicly noted that one character was missing from the cast. I built that character in 20 minutes, routed it to that exact channel, and within a day it had been adopted by official accounts with roughly 4.9M combined followers.
A Lebanese broadcaster released an Angry Birds-style video. It triggered a wave of response content across the region - a whole ecosystem of bird characters produced by different sides, each rendering public figures in the same visual style. The trend moved fast: new characters were appearing hourly, and attention was concentrated in a handful of large Telegram channels.
I was following it as an observer, not a participant. This was a personal project - no client, no brief, no budget.
At around 21:00, "Abu Ali Express" - an Israeli Telegram channel with 597K followers and one of the main aggregators covering the trend - posted an explicit observation: one specific character was still missing from the cast.
That wasn't an abstract gap I inferred. It was a stated, public request from the exact channel that had the distribution to make it land.
Why this one was worth acting on| Decision | Choice | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Build vs. wait | Ship the same night | Less polish, but the trend had an hours-long window before saturation |
| Tooling | AI image generation | No custom illustration control, but 20 minutes instead of days - and style-matching mattered more than originality |
| Distribution | Send directly to the one channel that asked | Single point of failure, but far higher hit-rate than broadcasting it everywhere myself |
| Framing | Fill the stated request exactly, no pitch attached | No credit negotiation, but zero friction for the channel to just use it |
Anyone can generate an image with AI. That part is commodity, and it is not the interesting half. What made this work was reading a live system correctly: recognising which gap was real because someone stated it publicly, choosing the one channel whose distribution could carry it, and sending inside the window before the trend went cold. The asset took 20 minutes. The judgment took the whole evening of watching.
Sent the asset with no attribution attached and no follow-up plan. Credit stopped at the first channel; downstream republication carried none.
Keep the send just as frictionless, but capture the provenance chain in real time - and prepare the follow-up assets before the first one lands, since the request for more arrived faster than I was ready for.
